Emerson 653-B

This is a well-known model of EMERSON Corp. : Type 653-B

Unfortunately, this one has non original knobs.

When I found it, someone had updated it for France with a waves band selector to switch for Long waves, Broadcast, Short waves. The selector had been added on the rear side of the radio and had special coils for LW and SW. I removed all these non original components and now, except the two knobs, this radio is exactly as it was on its first day ! Thank you in advance if anyone have the two original knobs...

Is such an add-on for selecting waves bands frequent ?

Yes, In France it is frequent to find American radios updated with Long Waves because we have only one transmitter on broadcast band ! This radio is named   "RADIO BLEUE" and it is the only French radio that is heard on American receptors with only Broadcast.

A very good idea could be to create an American Radio Transmitter in Paris. There is many places on Broadcast band !

Thank you and happy long life to RADIO BLEUE !

Jewel Kadet

This JEWEL KADETTE is a very, very nice radio. This model is one of the first mass-produced radio sets. It works with only three tubes : one 12A7 as rectifier + AF power amplifier and two 6C6.

Unfortunately, a little dial behind the volume control knob is missing on this set. I'm looking for one. If you have one to sell, please contact me.

I have another JEWEL KADETTE Ivory colored. The schematic is similar but the embossed back and the two 6C6 external screens are missing on this set. So I'm searching these parts. Thank you in advance for your help.

Philco 1030

This model is a PHILCO TRANSITONE Type 1030.

It is not an usual model in the USA.

Why ?

Because this is a model built by PHILCO Corp. USA for export over Europe only.

The Result ?

If you look at the back side of this receiver, you will find a knob !

The Reason ?

There is a selector to switch between Broadcast and Short Waves.

Does this model exist in the USA ?

No, it does not exist but there is a PHILCO TRANSITONE very similar to it : The PHILCO 51-532 from 1952

You can see it on Antique Radio Page ( DON ADAMSON ).

Zenith Consoltone

This is a ZENITH Model 6 C 05.

This is one of my favorites because of its symmetry with a speaker on the left side, a dial on the right side and one double knob in the center.

The cabinet is interesting, with a little handle on the top.

This model exists in different colors : black, white, bakelite, blue.

It is a classic five tubes schematic radio. I found it on a flea market and an unknown French technician had changed the AF power amplifier tube. The original one must be a 25L6 tube, it has been replaced with a 50C5 miniature tube ! My first work has been to restore the original statement with a 25L6, changing the socket.

Zenith TransOceanic

This is a wellknown model : The ZENITH TransOceanic. This one is a H500.

A burgandy ZENITH model 511 "portable" (handle) radio with AC supply !! (no battery).
